Higher PAR levels are achieved with less input power. Also, since LED lights run cooler, there's less load on the HVAC system. In fact, the energy savings are so high that utility providers will offer outstanding rebates for LED grow lights so they can make better use of their existing power grid rather than build more stations.
- Distance from the canopy to the lights. LEDS must be positioned much closer to the canopy than traditional HID lights. Led diodes send the light in all directions, so to get optimal PAR levels, the canopy must be close to the light. Our Favorite brand is Esttech because they have special lensing over the diodes which directs the light straight down and penetrates the canopy better than any other light on the market.
- You'll need more dehumidification. Since there is less load on the cooling system, the system will take less water out of the air. To compensate, you'll need to have an HVAC professional implement a re-heat process in the unit or add more dehumidifiers.
- You won't need to replace any bulbs. One factor that people overlook is the annual expense of changing out bulbs on HID lights. This cost can be upwards of $100 per fixture per year.
