As of March 15 2022, New York has approved the cultivation of adult use recreational cannabis. The first wave of licenses will go to farmers registered for the past two years in the states hemp program. The Application window for adult use conditional cultivation licenses in New York is open Until June 30, 2022.
An approved adult us cultivator in New York can grow either in greenhouses (recommended) or outdoors but the size of the flowering canopy is limited. A cultivator can choose to grow all outdoors, all in greenhouses, or both. If choosing an outdoor canopy, the maximum size is one acre (43,560 sqft.) If growing in greenhouses, the maximum flowering canopy is 25,000 sqft. If the cultivator would like to grow both greenhouse and outdoor they may plant up to 20,000 sqft and 30,000 sqft of flowering canopy respectively.
(For now) only 20 artificial fixates may be used. We feel that based of the large demand for product after the harvest season, the supply will simply not be enough for the demand, and the state will allow the use of artificial lighting. To limit light pollution and maintain a "dark sky" a greenhouse outfitted with a light deprivation system should be used.
Cultivating adult use products in New York will be challenging without the use of artificial lighting in the winter months. Aside of lighting concerns, you'll need to run large greenhouse heaters. A 30'x100' greenhouse should put out at least 400,000 btus. Hortitech's internal roll to peak light deprivation greenhouse is the most insulated greenhouse on the market and can offset heating bills, giving the cultivator a leg up on its peers.
Cultivators in New York and the rest of the East Coast will face much greater struggles fighting humidity and the mold associated than any other legal states like California, Oregon, and Colorado where outdoor cultivation is standard practice. Using a combination of overhead dehumidifiers and air purification systems will help dramatically. However, its tough to size the units correctly because of the rapid air exchanges that occur in greenhouses. We size our fans to exchange the whole volume of air in the greenhouse every minute when the suns out. This means that the only time the dh's and air purifiers can really catch up is a at night.
Unfortunately, evaporative cooling systems work far better in desert climates vs humid environments. Since the reaction works by running dry/hot air through a wet membrane. If the air is humid to begin with the reaction is limited.
The Auto Internal Light Deprivation Kit is complete and ready to go. Kit includes a 1 7/8" x 2 3/8" frame that's 26'x96' inside a 30'x100' frame. The inside frame is completely sealed with air ducted through the end walls to create a 2ft thermal air "bubble" around the growing space. A full ventilation system includes a 400k BTU heater, exhaust fans, automated louvers, and HAF fans to help lower humidity. Woven membranes with a 4 year warranty insures protection from the elements. A fully automated light deprivation package makes controlling the light cycle effortless with 2 powerful 100nm motors and a programmable controller. Includes all necessary accessories for all core functions. Lumber and cement to be purchased separately.
